Charlie Shami

Founder, Sonic Family of Companies

Charlie Shami is the founder of the Sonic Family of Companies, a group of businesses serving distinct needs in mortgage financing, real estate, title and settlement, and direct home buying. Based in Dearborn, Michigan, he brings experience in residential transactions dating to 2008 and a practical understanding of what clients and professionals need to move a transaction forward.

Charlie serves as President & CEO of Sonic Loans®, Principal Broker of Sonic Realty®, Founder & CFO of Sonic Title®, and Founder of Sell to Sonic. Powered by Sonic brings those businesses together through a shared commitment to clear communication, sound judgment, and accountability. Each company serves its own clients and professional relationships, with the flexibility to work alongside the providers a client chooses.

Before founding Sonic Loans®, Charlie served as a Director and later Senior Director of Mortgage Banking at Quicken Loans, now Rocket Mortgage. Earlier in his career, Charlie held mortgage loan originator licenses in 44 states. He is currently licensed as a mortgage loan originator in Michigan, Florida, Texas, California, and Colorado. He also holds real estate broker licenses in Michigan and Florida and a title producer license in Michigan.

Charlie remains active in mortgage origination, keeping his leadership grounded in the questions clients ask and the details that determine whether a transaction can move forward. That experience informs his approach to building businesses: understand the work, develop capable people, and make responsibilities clear.

His perspective on homeownership is personal. At 18, he helped his family meet their mortgage obligations, an experience that shaped his respect for the responsibility behind a housing decision.

As Sonic develops, Charlie’s focus is on strengthening each business through leadership development, financial discipline, and practical improvements to service. He values relationships with professionals who bring complementary expertise and share a long-term commitment to their clients. His goal is to build companies that earn repeat business and referrals through the quality of their work, with teams prepared to carry that standard forward.
